The Exchange Program at University of Michigan-Flint: Application Portal

The University of Michigan-Flint welcomes undergraduate and graduate students from the following institutions to complete up to two-major semesters (Fall and/or Winter) at the University of Michigan-Flint. 
  • Exchange programs allow undergraduate students (and in some cases graduate students) to study in a foreign country at a partner institution for a certain period of time while receiving credits towards their home university degree.
  • Students are expected to pay living expenses while in Flint. These include housing, meals, books, local transportation, health insurance, and other personal expenses.
  • Students from American National Student Exchange (NSE) can also enroll through this portal.

Overview of Application & Enrollment Steps

To participate in the exchange program, you must FIRST be approved and nominated by your home campus. See the Dates and Deadlines section below to learn when the nomination periods. When you receive an email from the University of Michigan-Flint approving your nomination, please follow the steps below:


STEP 1: APPLY ONLINE AND SUBMIT APPLICATION DOCUMENTS INTO WORLDLINK

Click "Apply Now" below and follow the instructions to create an profile in M-Flint WorldLink. Then upload or submit all requested items by the specified application deadline. These items will include:
  • Application for Exchange & Agreement
  • Online Learning Agreement
  • Official University Transcript
  • Original Proof of English Proficiency
  • Copy of Bachelor's Degree (required only for graduate applicants)
These forms can be accessed in WorldLink. All items must be in English or have English translations. 


STEP 2: SUBMIT SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS INTO iSERVICE

  • After your application has been processed, you will recieve an email instructing you to access iService and upload the documents needed for UM-Flint to create your DS-2019. This is the immigration document used to apply for J-1 visa. Items you will upload in iService include:
    • Copy of Passport
    • Affidavit of Financial Support
    • Original Bank Statement(s)

STEP 3: PREPARE TO TRAVEL
Once you submit all application items online, your acceptance packet will be created and mailed to you. The acceptance packet includes your UM-Flint log-in information (which you will use to register for classes), your offical UM-Flint acceptance letter, your DS-2019, as well as other critical information. When you receive your acceptance packet from UM-Flint, you should: 
  • Register in UM-Flint's Student Information System (SIS) for the courses approved on your Learning Agreement
  • Apply for a J -1 visa at the nearest U.S. embassy
  • Apply for housing at either First Street Residence Hall or Riverfront Residence Hall
  • Understand the policies about Health Insurance and submit a waiver if you intend to bring our own insurance
  • Book your flight and notify the International Center of your arrival
    • We can pick-up students who arrive into Flint Bishop Airport (airport code is FNT)
  • Arrive in time for International Student Orientation
